8mm Laminate Flooring

What are the major advantages and disadvantages of 8mm laminate flooring vs., say, a 12mm laminate? The first advantage is price. It takes less material to make them, so they're less expensive. The next is durability. With a laminate floor, the durability comes from the coating on the top, usually aluminum oxide, and the coatings are the same on 8mm floors as they are on 12mm floors, so you lose nothing in terms of wear, scratch, stain and fade resistance. What are the cons then? To the degree that your floor covering acts as insulation, you will get less of that. Also, because of the size, a little less padding is allowed underneath an 8mm laminate.
